What is PET-G?
PET-G stands for the glycol-modified version of polyethylene terephthalate (PET). PET is known for its use in transparent deposit bottles, which are bottles that can be recycled. With the glycol modification of PET, the material becomes strong and durable, while remaining easy to use. Little to no issues related to shrinking or warping arise while printing using the PET-G filament.
To create PET-G, a second glycol is added during the polymerization. This provides an important advantage over PET plastic. When PET is heated several times, it becomes blurred and brittle. With the glycol modification of PET-G, this is not an issue anymore.
PET-G is a strong and durable material that is also resistant to water and chemicals. This filament can withstand fatigue and repeated use. PET-G is the only filament that has been approved to be used in contact with food products (given that the machine and equipment have not been used with other 3D printing materials) making it outstandingly useful in many industries.
Thanks to the combination of strength, toughness, and flexibility; PET-G is extremely suitable for parts that move frequently and where material fatigue often occurs. PET-G is great for water-proof applications, parts that “snap-fit” in place, and it is commonly used in the food industry thanks to its food-grade certification.
