What is PA-12?
PA-12 stands for Polyamide-12. This filament falls under the nylon filaments category. Nylon is popular in the plastics industry, because it is a strong, semi-flexible material with high wear resistance.
Nylons are commonly made with Nylon 6 or Nylon 6/6. These nylons are easy to handle and are very strong; however, they lack the stiffness necessary many applications require. PA-12 is made of Nylon 12 resin and is, therefore, a high-quality filament with high rigidity.
PA-12 is a strong but semi-flexible material that has great impact and heat resistance, while maintaining a high level of resistance to fatigue. PA-12 models can be used over and over in perpetual motions without showing signs of wear and tear.
Nylon is ideal for products that require both firmness and some flexibility, such as prostheses. It can be used in environments with a temperature up to about 90 degrees. The material is therefore great for printing gears and other moving parts where friction is inevitable.
